The Sorcery

Medan jag jobbar vidare på nästa kapitel... hittade en gammal text på engelska jag skrev någon gång, få se vad ni tycker om det även om det inte är en färdig berättelse.

The Sorcery

It was a beautiful day, the first day of the summer weeks. Nic was back home at the family farm for the first time in three months. She was lying in the grass trying to communicate through the mind with one of the cats. It was her homework for the week. Sadly, since the cat didn’t react at all – as it would have if it had heard her – she hadn’t succeeded.
Nic was a student at the Sorcery which was a great magic school. They had a tough time table most of the year, but during the three summer months they only had classes every other week.
“Dinner!” Nic’s mother suddenly called through the kitchen window. Nic gave up on the cat and went to join her family at the table instead.
“Trick is acting strange again”, Jake told his father. “It might be the same illness as last year, but I don’t know.” Jake was Nic’s older brother and he cared very much for all animals on the farm, but the horse Trick was his favorite.
“That’s strange. She changed after the accident”, their father said.
“Can you talk about that some other time? We haven’t seen Nic in three months”, their mother complained. “How have you been doing?” she asked Nic.
“I’ve mastered the elemental energies”, Nic answered proudly with a wide smile.
“That sounds interesting”, Tiv said without meaning it. She had always been jealous of her sister – Nic, the perfect. Nic had blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes and most importantly she got to go to a fancy school. Tiv had brown hair and grey eyes and had never gotten very much attention.
“Next free week ‘I would like to bring a friend with me home “, Nic went on. There was no point in talking more magic since her family didn’t understand it.
“Don’t you think her family wants to see her as much as they can?” her mother wondered.
“Mom, you know there aren’t many girls at the Sorcery”, Nic began and before her mother got a chance to object she continued. “Tibbo’s parents live in a big city and they would love for him to come see a real farm like ours. Please.”
“Well I suppose it might be good for him then”, her mother said, unable to refuse.
“Just because you get everything you want anyway”, Tiv thought, annoyed.
“That’s not nice to say!” Nic said with chock turned at Tiv.
“I didn’t say a thing”, Tiv said with confusion.
“I do not get everything I want”, Nic said angrily.
“Great! Now I can’t even have my thoughts to myself”, Tiv thought and sank down in her chair with a tired sigh.
“Didn’t you… you just…?” Nic stammered while realizing Tiv was just thinking and not actually saying anything.
“Leave me alone!” Tiv said and got up.
Before Nic could respond, her sister had left the room.
“What was that about?” their mother asked.
“I’m not sure I really know what happened there”, Nic answered. She just couldn’t figure out why she’d heard Tiv’s thoughts.
“I’m going to check on Trick”, Jake said and rose. He didn’t bother about Nic’s magic at all and he suspected that was what his sisters’ strange conversation had been about. He went to the stables and found his black beauty breathing heavily.
“Hello girl. How are you”, he greeted her, but his mind wandered off to his sisters and their quarrels. Tiv had same hair and eye color as him, but that was as close as any of the three siblings got to each other. Nic was tall and slim, Tiv was short and Jake was tall, but steadier. Nic was very open and shared her stories with anyone, Tiv had always been more thoughtful and secretive but with a high temperament and Jake was calm and most happy while tending his animals. Trick brought him back to reality by chewing on the neck or his shirt.
“Are you hungry?” he asked her and went to fetch her something to eat.
“Of course I’m hungry.”
Jake froze. He turned around and looked at the black mare. She looked just like before. “I’m imagining things”, he thought to himself.
